Setup, patience amongst evening blackout and a stunning atmosphere: the STAFF crew plays the pivotal role to kick off the competition by establishing the event site, welcoming teams and creating a cheerful ambience. From all around the world, university teams gather together not only with competitive spirits, but with gratitude and glee as well to share their passion and learn from each other. These factors embody Formula Student: fierce but respectful.
One year of developing, believing and supporting each other unites every team. Ready to transfer the work on the tarmac, excitement and adrenaline rise high. Yet, a vehicle must comply to all regulations and being it the season's first contest, issues are at the order of the day. In fact, before the initial dynamic event took place, a fraction of squads passed all inspections. However, a team is not solely assessed by on-track results, as static disciplines are held as well and judged by professionals:
COST AND MANUFACTURING (MAX. 100 PTS):
The economic aspects of the development are analysed, with the aim of leading the team to better efficiency and optimise production.
ENGINEERING DESIGN (MAX. 150 PTS):
Teams are questioned about the scope of their technical concepts and how their assets match real-world demands.
DRIVERLESS VEHICLE DESIGN (MAX. 150 PTS):
The separate contest for vehicles with autonomous driving systems.
BUSINESS PLAN PRESENTATION (MAX. 75 PTS):
A fictional business case combining vehicle technologies and worldwide needs is identified, studied and presented.
In fact, the Junior Cup contenders just participate in the static disciplines, as their teams are emerging and seeking for experience. The "BPP" finalists present their work on stage, in front of their entire teams cheering them on. This rewarding achievement ignites further sparks to be successful on the circuit, but also hand feedback for their efforts and open up paths for the future.
On Sunday night, teams made their way back to their tents and cars rested in the pits for a deep sleep, before challenging the Dynamic Area from the next day on, where no surprise would be left out...
